After 10+ years at Apple, I left at the end of April. That weekend we did a major cull to clean out the house, sold a bunch of stuff as a part of the Mountain View city-wide garage sale, and gave the rest of it to Goodwill.

I was busy that first week of unemployment: swimming in the mornings, volunteering at the kids’ school, cooking dinner every night. At the end of the week, Linda and I sat down to talk through the end-game for our trip preparation. She suggested putting post-its on our living room wall for each of the items that needed to be completed. We ended up using different colors to  represent categories (house, home-schooling, finances, etc.) and the system has worked great so far. It’s very satisfying to complete something, walk over to the wall and rip down the post-it note.
