Leaving Fort Lauderdale… Eventually

What was originally anticipated to be a one-week stay has now stretched to at least two. As planned, we used our time in Fort Lauderdale (self-proclaimed “Yachting Capital of the World”) to do some boat projects: Rebuilt our fuel pickups, installed an Iridium GO! satellite hotspot and external antenna, re-rigged our radar-reflector and courtesy-flag lines, changed various oil and fuel filters, replaced worn belts, and gave the boat a thorough washing. Have been impressed by the quality and extent of the marine-related providers here.

While on this trip (and while on our June trip to Denmark), we’ve been renting out our house back in Mountain View to a mix of short- and medium-term tenants. Our friend and neighbor Mike Murphy has been doing an excellent job of handling the business end for us and the mix of renters that we’ve been getting via Airbnb has been interesting. On The Road Again

After 25 days at the marina on Amelia Island, our longest stop in one place so far, we got back underway yesterday. Here’s a picture of the surrounding marshes from the top of the mast on Boxing Day. (Our wind vane lost its tail, possibly as the result of a bird perching on top, and I’d ascended to remove it.)

Zero To Christmas In 24 Hours

We arrived back aboard EXIT after dinner on December 23rd. It was nice to be back to our home-away-from-home, though I think we were all a bit strung out after Walt Disney World, a great visit with Mormor (Linda’s Mom), and the 6+ hour drive back from Fort Lauderdale. As soon as we unpacked the car, the kids started in on some gingerbread house kits that Linda and Mormor had found:
