The First Sail

Today we went for our first sail. It was awesome. We went up to 8 knots! (Which for reference, is 9.20623558416 MPH.)[I looked this up in calcbot] We tilted about 20 degrees to port.

Before we achieved this semi-significant landmark, there was a large CRASH!! from belowdecks. My dad told me to go below and find out what it was. I looked below and saw nothing, and reported so to Dad. Later, I realized what made the crash was the open door of the hanging locker, as we were tilting.

Shoving Off

Today we finally got out of Lyman Moorse Boatbuilding. It was wonderful. We had a bunch of old British guys to literally shove us off. Later, we encountered a large storm with damaging winds and ping-pong ball sized hail. (We weren’t actually in the storm, I heard that off the radio.) We thought that the storm was going to hit us, but it didn’t.

Unloading Exit

Today I  spent the day unloading Exit. There were very many random things, as you can see from this picture:

Everything (and we mean everything) unloaded into the Lyman-Morse rigging shed.

Here are my top 3 favorites:

  1. An ice cream bucket full of assorted screws.
  2. Not 1 but 2 out-of-date flare kits
  3. 21 water filters that looked like rolls of kitchen string.

Pretty eventful and tiring, but not as much as yesterday, where I sandblasted stuff.

Today I sandblasted 2 pieces of metal for the boat, and A rusty steel peg-type thing. It was really fun. The rust on the peg was like half an inch thick! Here’s a video my dad took: Continue reading

Crabby

Today, I made a short-term pet crab named “Crabby.” He didn’t move much, but yes, he was alive. I made a temporary home for him in Elsa’s shoe. He liked it there and immediately nested in the toe. I pretended to dump him in the water but secretly kept him in. After a close inspection, Elsa correctly determined that Crabby was still in the toe. After that, I chased her with him, and she ran screaming. After that, I really did dump him in the ocean. Thus ends this chapter in the life of Crabby Williams.
